Hi Friends,

It’s a beautiful day here in NY.  Spring seems to have FINALLY sprung here!  The trees are beginning to bloom, it’s getting a little warmer and the sunshine is adding a lil pep to people’s steps.  More people are outside enjoying the beautiful weather which is always nice to see. 

I can’t wait to get out and enjoy it myself!  We’ve been work, work, working away on the house trying to get it back to what it once was prior to Hurricane Sandy.  There are times that we get really depressed because it feels like we’ve been at this forever and things still aren’t quite right.  Putting everything into perspective though, we realize how far we’ve come and are so thankful to be living back home again.  It was just about a month ago that we were able to move back home.  I was so stressed and depressed at that point.  I’m much happier now!  We just have to stay focused and continue to remind ourselves of the positives!

Anyway, with spring here I know that summer is right around the corner.  That means it’s almost time for the beach….and bikinis.  Let me tell you, my body is nowhere near ready to be wearing a bikini.  All of the stress really did a number on my poor body (and mind).  I’m back on track now and set up a little beach body challenge for myself.  For the next 90 days I’ll be doing a hybrid of Insanity & Les Mills Pump.  I began Insanity a few weeks ago but REALLY missed lifting, so I decided to purchases PUMP to get my lifting fix satisfied. I think this is going to be a great combo!

Insanity is no joke!  I’m sure you know that if you’ve ever seen any of their infomercials.  There were many times that I watched that infomercial intrigued with the program and the results, yet I didn’t think that I personally would be able to complete it.  I mean, I’m just this normal girl from Long Island.  😉  My thoughts changed when my sister, Melissa, completed it (FYI – she’s now on her 3rd round now!) and my brother, DJ, completed it with AMAZING results (see his pics below – he’s now on his 2nd round).

The wheels in my brain began turning and I thought, “If they can do it so can I!”

So, I got myself onto the Beachbody website and ordered Insanity.  If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know that my true love is lifting.  It takes real motivation to get me to do my cardio.  There are a ton of tricks I’ve adapted over the years in order to get my cardio in.  I’m VERY competitive with myself, so Insanity is perfect for me.  It challenges me to be better than the last time that I “pressed play”, instead of mindlessly pedaling on an elliptical.  After about 2 weeks of Insanity I was really missing my lifting routine though.

It didn’t make sense to do Insanity at home and then drive to the gym to lift.  Not having to drive to and from the gym every morning gives me extra time to sleep and do other things around the house before work.  The wheels began turning again and I decided to purchase Les Mills Pump.  Now, I can get cardio and lifting in right from my living room!  I truly believe that these two programs combined are going to get me to my best body ever (especially in combination with my new eating regimen). 🙂

I’m putting this out there for my own accountability.  Two months from now I’ll be finished with Insanity and Les Mills Pump will be complete a month after that.  I’m so excited to see where this takes me!   My brother may be 11 years younger than me, but he is my inspiration right now.  We’ve both battled weight issues for years and I’m so proud of him for taking control of his life and making positive changes ( DJ, if you’re reading this, I love you and I’m SO PROUD OF YOU)!  I hope that my after pics are as great as his!

Hi Guys!

How’s it going?  We’re in full Hurricane Sandy prep mode over here!  Last year we had an early snow fall over this same weekend. I remember it clearly because we were searching for my new car and found it that day.  I can’t believe it’s already been a year since then!  It doesn’t look like Sandy is supposed to hit until Tuesday (if she does hit), but we’re trying to be cautious and take some preemptive measures, since we live on the water.  Better to be safe than sorry, right?

I rolled out of bed early this morning so I could get a quick sweat session in.  I was extremely tired over the course of this past week, for some reason, and only made it out of bed a few days to get my workouts in.  You better bet I wasn’t going to let another day slip by without one! 

After some Couch to 5K running, a lil elliptical gliding and some iron pumping I made my way home to refuel and clean the house up a bit because we have more unwanted guests people coming shortly to view our house for a showing.  These showings are becoming very annoying.  I know it’s all for a better future though…still annoying

Once we send them on their way they leave, we’re making a run to get my car inspected for emissions and then to BJ’s to stock up on some Hurricane Sandy goods (flashlight batteries, Dura-Flame logs, jugs of water, etc).  We also have to take the boat out of the water.  Goodbye boating season. 😦

It’s going to be a full day of errands, but at least I get to spend the day with my man. 🙂

Saturday Stats

If you remember the steps to reaching my goal in my Turkey Day Challenge , you’ll know that #9 is to take starting & finishing measurements and pictures.  I thought about it some more and decided that keeping myself accountable weekly is important to me.  So that, my friends, is how “Saturday Stats” was created as a weekly regular to the good ol’ blog.

I’ll post my changes weekly until I’ve reached my goals.  From there, I might just post these once a month to make sure that I stay accountable and maintain my success.  What do you think?

I thought about not mentioning my actual stats and just providing the amount I lost, gained (hope not) or remained the same.  My uncomfortable weight might be someone’s ideal and I don’t want anyone to compare themselves to me or think that I’d look at them in a negative light for any reason.  Honestly, the only person I’m ever critical of is myself.  Unless you’re a truly horrible person (speaking about what comes from someone’s heart, not their image), I will never see you in a negative way.  I see others the way that I should really see myself, but that’s going to take some work.

Anyway, the more I thought about it, for my own accountability purposes, the more I knew that I had to put the facts out there.  I don’t know how I got to this point again of not being comfortable in my own skin, but I’m here and that’s the reality.  I don’t want to sweep it under the rug anymore.

Side note: It isn’t the weight that’s as much of an issue as how I got to this weight.  My ED embarrasses me.  I didn’t gain weight enjoying delicious food with family and friends.  I didn’t gain it trying all of the drinks that are accessible to me through my company.  At least then I could look back and say that I enjoyed the experience that went along with the weight gain.  No, this weight is all a product of ED.  That stops here though!  Remember, I’m not falling victim to myself anymore!

I’m looking at these numbers head on and making changes to be MY best me.  I can’t emphasize enough that you have to do what’s right for YOU!  Every individual is different.  We each have a happy weight that is just right for us and a diet (meant as: “our way of eating”) that works right for us individually.  Don’t compare yourself to others.  Strive to be your best.  Challenge yourself to be a better person than you were yesterday.  That’s all that matters!

With that being said, here are my starting stats:

Weight – 144.2 lbs

Right Bicep – 11 3/4″ (12 1/4″ Flexed)

Left Bicep – 11 3/4″ (12″ Flexed)

Wrist – 5 3/4″

Chest – 34 3/4″

Waist – 30″

Pooch (the area between my waist & hips 😉 ) – 35 1/2″

Hey Guys!

This is going to be a short one, but I wanted to pop in to say hello and let you know that I’m alive.  🙂

Work has been absolutely CRAZY the past few days.  CRAZZZYYYY!!!!  The only reason I even have a chance to write a lil something is because I’m covering the front desk so that the receptionist could take her hour lunch break.  Doesn’t matter that I’ve worked through lunch the past two days, I guess, or that I had to choke down my own food on the way from my desk to the reception area.  Hmph!

I should have known it was going to be one of those weeks when I spilled 1/2 of my protein shake right before leaving the house Monday morning.  Protein shake EVERYWHERE!!  By everywhere I mean: on the wall, on the floor, over the coffee table and IN MY HAIR! 

Errrr….  The only good thing was that it was a vanilla shake, so it didn’t really make any marks on the wall.  Have to try to see the positive, right?  This girl doesn’t cry over spilled milk protein shakes.

Today, I thought I was in the clear.  I made it out the door and smiled to myself. I got to the car and bent in to put my shake in the cup holder. Somehow, I lost my grip on the cup and, yep you guessed it, 3/4 of my shake spilled right in the middle of the driver’s seat.  😦

I admit it, I swore right in the middle of the street.  Sometimes this sweetheart reaches her breaking point.  You can’t be pleasant 100% of the time, right? 😉

After mopping up the spilled shake with a beach towel and then using some Clorox wipes to remove the stickiness I got over it and drove to work, frustrated that this happened two days in a row!

Oh well, the good news is that tomorrow the office is closed for the Fourth of July holiday.  Hurray!  The weather isn’t supposed to be the greatest, but I’m happy just to have the day to relax at home with Rob.

Spilled shake or not, nothing could take away the fact that I pulled my sleepy self out of bed this morning and got an awesome workout in!  Quads, Calves & Cardio for me this morning.  My legs are going to love & hate me tomorrow!

Ok, it’s about that time, guys.  I hope your week is going MUCH better than mine has started out!

Good Morning, Friends!

I had every intention of posting yesterday.  Then, I got to work and realized it wasn’t meant to be.  If you follow me on twitter you might have seen this tweet:

You could say things got a lil crazy and I was stuck at work after the 5 pm whistle sounded. 😦

I was able to break away for a short lunch break; although, my actual lunch was eaten at my desk between running reports…

That would be a 96% lean ground beef burger, left over from dinner the night before, on a bed of cabbage shreds & a dollop of reduced sugar ketchup.  I had a low carb pita on the side.

Not very appealing looking, I know.  It was tasty though.  I was in a rush and just grabbed what I could before rushing out the door.

So much for What I Ate Wednesday, huh?   There’s always next week! 🙂

Two things that actually were appealing to me happened when I finally broke away from my desk to take a lil road trip.

First stop?  SEPHORA!

I could REALLY get in trouble in that store.  I LOVE all things makeup!  I even tweeted about it.

I had received a free sample of Clinique’s Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer with my most recent purchase from Sephora.com (Have I mentioned Sephora is a weakness of mine?) and was hooked from first use.  I’ve been out of it for days and made sure I wasn’t going to live another day without it in my life!

 LOVE!

After walking in the extreme heat to get back to my car, I decided on an unexpected pit stop on the way back to the office.

Whole Foods!  For my other new love.  Which I also tweeted about.

I made it back to the office, finished up some presentations, made a mad dash around the office delivering said presentations to coworkers and hightailed it out of there before I could be kept any longer.

Whew!  What.A.Day!!

Today promises to be another crazy one.  More reports to run and an important meeting with some of our suppliers.  There’s an event that we’re prepping for, which I’ll actually be able to enjoy this weekend with my sister.

Keeping the eye on the prize, my friends.  The weekend is almost here!

Good Morning, My Sweets!

It’s dull and gray out, here in NY.  It would be the perfect day to cuddle under some blankets and watch movies all day.  Unfortunately, it’s Tuesday and that means that most of us are at work. 😦

To brighten up this dreary day, I fixed myself a breakfast of Fat Free Greek Yogurt, Sliced Strawberries, a Sprinkle of Blueberries & a Trader Joe’s Blueberry Wheat Bran Muffin.

Eaten at my desk, of course.

It was delish!!

Now, I’m trying to stay focused on work, but thoughts of a surreal moment last night keep crowding my brain.

Rob’s good friend’s 1st daughter, Eva (pronounced “Ava”), was born very early Sunday morning.  I’d say that’s about the best Father’s Day gift you could ask for. 

She’s healthy, happy and beautiful!

Last night, we went to visit the happy family.  I opened the door to the hospital room and rested my eyes on their little precious girl.  Just a glance at her and you fall in love.

Rob refused to hold her, fearing that he would drop her or do something wrong.  I waited my turn, scrubbed up and was allowed to hold her until the nurse came in and told us that visiting hours were over.  Perfect timing since she was getting a little fussy because it was time to eat! 😉

It was funny watching Rob standing protectively by us, as I held Eva, yet he was afraid to hold her.  He’s so confident about the majority of things he’s faced with in life, yet this precious little creature made him nervous.  It made my heart melt for Rob, as well.

I took in the entire scene.  The banter between Rob and his good friend, Lou, made me think back to my own childhood.  Rob is now “Uncle Rob” to Eva. 

Sometimes, the ties of friendship are stronger than blood.

I thought back to my own godfather, Uncle Al.  He wasn’t related through blood, but he treated us better than some of our blood relatives.  Sitting, holding Ava, made me feel like I had come full circle.  Right before me I could see how the bond of true friendship can turn friends into family. 

I know that Rob will be a part of Eva’s life forever.  She’ll hear her dad telling stories about his younger years and the adventures he had with Rob.  Just the thought of that, this Tuesday, brings a smile to my face.

Happy Monday, My Sweets!

 Did you have a fabulous weekend?  Did yours go as quickly as mine did? 

I. Am. EXHAUSTED!! 

My weekend entailed lots of driving around and enjoying the beautiful weather as much as possible.  I was supposed to get some studying in, but that just wasn’t in the cards for me.  I did make it to two of my favorite stores though.

 

It’s been FAR too long since I’ve hit up either of these.  I felt like a child in a toy store and enjoyed every second, taking my time to scour every inch of each store.

I even found a brand new love that I’ve been hearing about all over the blogs.

I think I’ll be putting my debit card away until next weekend, when I’ll be heading into NYC with Rob, my sister and my future brother-in-law.  Details about that event will follow over the weekend, but I’m SO EXCITED to have some drinks and good food with people who I love!  We never have time to just hang out and chill, so this is the perfect event for us!!

 Let me tell you, this weekend completely wiped me out!  I guess it didn’t help that Rob didn’t get home from Vegas until 2:30 am, this morning.  I have a difficult time sleeping when he isn’t home. 

 Does that happen to you if your significant other is away overnight? It happens to me without fail!

 We really didn’t get to speak much while he was away.  I let him have his guy time and just do his thing while hanging out with the guys for the bachelor party.  The past two weeks Rob has had a ton of traveling and work to do, so I think we both felt that we really hadn’t had a chance to have a full conversation with each other.  We were so excited to see each other that we were up until almost 4 am talking!  I truly feel like a piece of me is missing when we’re apart.  As cheesy as it sounds, he completes me.

 Around 4 am, the sand man was beckoning us to go to sleep. 

My eyelids grew heavy and the next thing I knew, my alarm was sounding for my 5:15 am gym wake-up call. 

Yeah, that just didn’t happen….  I felt bad, because I’m trying to get into a routine, if you remember the goals I listed in my Friday Fitness update.  I’ll try to get to the gym tonight, but I have a feeling that I won’t be seeing the gym until tomorrow morning.  Just a hunch. 😉

Well, this sleepy sweetheart has to start tackling some stuff at work.  It’s going to be a crazy week.  I can feel it!

Morning, My Sweets!

My alarm sounded at 6:30 am, this morning.  After hitting snooze a million times for half an hour, I hopped out of bed to get started with my day.  I wanted to make it to the gym before classes started.  By 8 am the gym is usually packed and that’s when this sweetheart starts getting annoyed.

I can be be on the shy/timid side, so as much as the gym feels like home to me I still won’t push my way to get what I want.  Usually, I’ll look around and feel an overwhelming sense of wanting to get out of there when it is overcrowded or I work a body part that I wasn’t intending to, because the area for those weights/machines is less packed.

I wasn’t going to allow that to happen today!

Some things might be out of our control, but there are often solutions to many more problems than not.  You just have to think things through and figure out what the best option for YOU is.  Today, that was me waking up early in order to get to the gym before the crowd.

It worked!

I started with 30 minutes of intervals on the treadmill.

My knees felt fine with two minutes of walking at a fast pace and then two minutes of running.  I haven’t been consistent with my workouts lately (you know, with the whole gym annoying me thing) and I could definitely feel that my conditioning isn’t what it once was. I’ll get it back!  Persistence & Consistency! 

I kicked that treadmills booty & it kicked mine right back!

Look at those shoulders though.  🙂

After hitting up some back and abs, I headed out to find it’s a glorious day.

I wish Rob was home so that we could go out and enjoy the beautiful weather on a bike ride or maybe even out on the boat!

I do have some Super Secret Visitors coming over today. The big reveal will have to be at a later date.  Sorry to be so secretive, but it’s with good reason.  You’ll understand when I let the cat out of the bag.  🙂

I promise to take pictures to share with you later.  Unlike the bad blogger that I was last night, when I met Toni for the first time.  We had so much fun that time flew and the only picture I took was an afterthought.

Now, this chick had better get movin’, because my visitors are on their way and driving WAY faster than anticipated.  I need to shower and get ready before they ring the doorbell.

First, some post workout fuel must be consumed.

This was my second attempt at making a shake this morning.  I tried to make a green smoothie, but it turned out NASTY!  I went back to the drawing board and this deliciously-thick, strawberry shake was born.

My shake consisted of: 1 scoop Strawberry Protein Powder, 1/2 cup Frozen Strawberries, 1/2 tsp Xantham Gum, 1/2 tsp Guar Gum (both to make it thicker), 1/2 cup Unsweetened Coconut Milk, Ice Cubes & a Splash of Water

So thick it barely moved when turned sideways…

YUM!!

Ok, I really must get going before my guests find me in my sweaty state.
